Daycare providers spend the day on the floor, on the move and on call for little ones. This guide is about gifts for the provider, the adult who does the work, and keeps everything focused on them.
On the floor all day
- Easy-to-clean, comfortable shoes, if you know their size and what they already like.
- Cushioned insoles and good socks.
- A knee cushion or a small stool.
- Hand cream and lip balm. Constant hand washing dries skin.
Small comforts
- A travel mug with a lid that survives being knocked over.
- A sturdy tote for supplies and personal things.
- Tea, coffee or a favorite snack for a short break.
- A gift card for a coffee shop, lunch or a craft store.
Time for themselves
A candle (not strongly scented), a good book, a heat pack or a spa certificate gives them a break that is theirs.
What to skip
- Anything with a child's name, photo or likeness. Keep the gift focused on the adult.
- Toys and children's items. Those are for the program, not the provider.
- Food without checking for allergies.
- Items that look like they came from a children's catalog.
A good rule
A handwritten thank-you from a parent, with a few honest words about what the care meant, is often the best part of the gift. Check your provider's gift policy if you aren't sure.
